At Bow River all of our staff have the skills and incentives to make decisions. We hold people accountable for their decisions, and reward good performance directly. Most decisions in the Field are made by Field Staff or Production Engineers. Senior management sets the standards, but we truly believe that no one understands the day-to-day operations better than the people conducting the operations.
An illustration of our approach, in early 2014, we challenged our team to reduce costs or increase revenues by $1M. Upon hitting the target, we would pay out 7.5% of the savings as an extraordinary bonus, with the individual amounts varying significantly, based on contribution. The $1M target was hit in six months, and bonuses were immediately paid to all staff, excluding senior management.
